1SG Ret. John William Dyar Sr., 85, of Forsyth, Georgia passed away Friday, December 08, 2017. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 beginning at 2:00PM EST, with Billy Glover officiating the service. The interment will conclude at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Vance-Brooks funeral home from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00P.M. EST.
John was born December 16, 1931 in Walhalla, South Carolina to the parents of William and Annie Dyar. John was a member of Kirkland Memorial Baptist Church. John was a retired 1SG, E-8, in the U.S. Army. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. In Korea John was awarded the Purple Heart Medal. While serving in Vietnam John was awarded 2 Bronze Stars medals and The Army Commendation Medal with Valor. John was also a retiree from the Muscogee County Board of Education Plant Services. John continued to serve by being a member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars, The American Legion and The Disabled American Veterans organizations.
Other than his parents, John is predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Kay Dyar. Two sons, Kenneth Ray Dyar and Danny Tyrone Dyar, one sister Lucille Hanvey. John is also predeceased by two brothers, Bob and Jimmy Dyar
Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Dyar and wife Mary Ranson of Forsyth, Ga.; three sons, John William Dyar Jr. and wife Laura of Weaver, Al., Randall Paul Dyar and his domestic partner Melissa of Whitehall, AR., Timothy Dale Dyar and wife Jennifer of Elberton, Ga., two sisters Carolyn Nix and husband Gerald of Seneca, S.C., Pat Presley of Daytona, Fl. John is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 15 great grand children with 4 additional great grand children to soon join the family.
