Mrs. Agatha Brookins Kinney, 91, of Phenix City, AL passed away peacefully late Wednesday evening, January 9, 2019 at Phenix City Health Care in Phenix City, AL.
A celebration of life funeral service will be held 2:00 pm EST on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at First United Methodist Church in Phenix City with Rev. Ralph Wooten and Rev. Steve Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EST at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City. The Friendship Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mrs. Kinney was born November 2, 1927 in Jackson County, FL, near Graceville to the late Richard Roy Brookins and Leila Cain Brookins. She graduated from Greenville High School in 1945 and shortly before that time met her future husband Jack at a revival at the First United Methodist Church. They were married September 22, 1945 at her home near Graceville. Mrs. Kinney retired from Sears after tenure of 38 years. She served in different capacities at her church, First United Methodist Church in Phenix City from 1960 until her death, but her main contribution was the church pianist for more than 45 years. She shared and supported her husband in his musical ministry in church revivals, and other musical related activities for as long as he was able. They were married for 65 years before his death in 2010. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jack Lanier Kinney, daughter, Hope Rene Kinney, brother, Richard Coleman Brookins, and a great grandson, Brandon M. Spann.
She is survived by two daughters, Joy K. Smith of Phenix City, AL, and Melanie K. Jordan and husband Clifford B. Jordan of Tallahassee, FL; (5) grandchildren, David T. Dudley, Laurie R. Dudley, Melanie Amanda Smith, Devin Lanier Jordan and wife Ashley, and Julie Anna Jordan, (4) great grandchildren, Chelsey Finnell and husband John, Cameron Dudley, Ethan Lanier Jordan, and Logan Wilson, and (2) great great grandsons, Colby Blizzard, and Conner Finnell.
