Agnes Gaynell Mims, 98, of Columbus, GA, passed away peacefully at Gentiva Hospice House. A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, December 20, 2014 beginning at 1:00 P.M. at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA. Pastor Paul Thomas and Pastor Bud Rupel will be officiating. Interment will conclude at Oakey Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Abbeyville, AL. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 12:00 at the funeral home. Agnes Gaynell Mims was born December 11, 1916 in Henry County, AL. daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson Givens and Effie Parker Givens. Agnes worked as a cloth inspector at Bibb Mill; she retired after 41 years of dedicated service. She was a member of North Highland Assembly of God. Agnes was a devoted Christian and always put God first in her life. She loved spending time with her family. In her spare time Agnes enjoyed traveling, after retirement she traveled to all fifty states. She also enjoyed sewing and fishing. Other than her parents she is preceded in death by her loving husband, John Alfred Mims; two brothers, Edward Gray Givens and J.T. Givens. Survivors include daughter Katherine Miller; son, John Mims; brother, Orland Givens; four grandchildren, Marquetta Brown, Tony Miller, Stephanie Clark, and Valeta Brookins; ten great grandchildren, eighteen great -great- grandchildren, and one great- great- great grandchild. Agnes is also survived by a very special dear friend, Loffiett “T” Shorter. In lieu of flowers the family asks that those so desiring make a memorial donation to Evangel Temple, MAPS fund at 5350 Veterans Parkway, Columbus, GA, 31904.
