Alma Avis Harris

Alma Avis Harris, 89, of Phenix City, AL, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2015, at St. Francis in Columbus, GA.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am EDT, on Thursday, July 16, 2015, at Vance Memorial Chapel, with Reverend Rodney Mitchell officiating. Interment will be held at Lakeview Memory Gardens and the family will receive friends one hour before the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Ms. Harris was born on December 15, 1925, in Barbour County, AL, the daughter of the late Barney Shehane and Lila Smith Shehane. She helped run the family business, Harris Upholstery, since 1962 and was a member of Crawford Road Baptist Church.

Other than her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Miller Dean Harris, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.

She is survived by 3 children, Larry and Sharon Harris, Danny and Kim Harris, and Robin and Dan Hammock; 8 grandchildren, Mendy and Scott Hendrix, Ben and Jenny Harris, Crystal and Michael Belew, Chase Harris, Parker Harris, Tucker Harris, Dustin and Joy Hammock, and Lauren Hammock; 9 great grandchildren; extended family members and many caring friends.
