Andre Harrell, Sr., age 66, resident of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away on Thursday, September 15,2022 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 3738 US Hwy 431N/280W, Phenix City, Alabama on Friday, September 30, 2022, 12:30 p.m. with Dr. Annie Brunson officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Friday, September 30,2022 from 11:30 a.m. till 12:30 p.m.
Andre, son of the late Lucious Harrell and Frances Winston Harrell, was born November 21, 1955 in Newark, New Jersey.
Andre was educated in the Newark school system, he was a graduate of Weequahic HS and soon after attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. He attended the Church of the Living God. A twelve-year veteran of the U.S. Army Andre received an honorable discharge. During his distinguished military career, he received the rank of Staff sergeant and was awarded the Army Achievement Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Expert Marksmanship Badge, and Army Service Ribbon.
Andre enjoyed music, reading, playing board games, cards and celebrating special occasions with family and friends. The family remembers him as being full of laughter, fun and a loving gentle giant. He was a proud member of the Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship Inc. where he was affectionately known as “Gun”.
After a brief illness, on Thursday, September 15, 2022, Andre received his wings while at his residence. Preceding him in death were his parents, Lucious and Frances Harrell and daughter Kenisha Harrell.
Andre leaves to cherish his memory a daughter, Shaniquah Harrell Phenix City, AL, Sons: Carl Andre “Manny” Harrell Jr. (Jasmine), Tampa, Fl, Chad Alan Harrell (Marsha) and Christopher Anthony Harrell, Columbus, GA. Sisters: Denise Ford (Grady), Annette Vick (William), Barbara Leak ((Alphonse) all of New Jersey and Ashivia Sommers, Atlanta, GA. Brothers: Charles and Gary Harrell, Houston, Texas. and Lucious Harrell, Jr. (Stephanie), New Jersey. Grandchildren: Keyan Harrell, Desmin, Rhyan and Kaitlyn Jones, and Cameron Harrell. A great granddaughter Isabella Harrell and a host of relatives and friends.
