Barbara Ann Bixler, 88, of Phenix City, AL passed away at home peacefully on November 2, 2023. Funeral services will be held on November 7, 2023 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City, AL. The viewing will take place from 1:30 pm to 2:45 pm, immediately followed by a graveside service at 3:00 pm at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
Barbara was born July 13, 1935 in Phenix City, AL to the late John Henry Brown and Lanora Whitehead Brown, and her late sisters Gladys Kambouris Dean and Florette Langley Christena. She is preceded in death by husband 1SG Harvey J. Bixler Sr, USA (ret), son Harvey (Jeff) Bixler Jr, daughter Bobbie Jean Fendel, and great-granddaughter Ireland Ann Norton.
Barbara retired from Sunshine Biscuits/Keebler after 20 plus years of employment.
Barbara raised five children with her husband while he served in the United States Army. Afterwards, she traveled extensively to visit her children who resided all over the country.
She was a lifetime member of the Women of the Moose Lodge and the VFW. She danced at the Rita Martin Dance Studio. She loved shopping, traveling, Alabama football, bowling, gambling, and playing bingo.
She is survived by son SFC Paul Bixler USA (ret) and his wife SFC Stacey USA (ret) of Buffalo, NY, daughter Lori Bixler Bellerue of Phenix City, AL, and daughter Joyce Henson of Huntsville, AL. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jennifer Bixler-Wright and husband Somar, Amber Fountain and husband Lt. John Fountain, Ashley Bellerue, Amanda Norton, Nicole Woods and husband Jay, and Christina Bixler. She also has thirteen great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren.
She was an avid animal lover, and she leaves behind her beloved dogs, Chico and Lucy.
