Barbara Jean Burkett

Barbara Jean Burkett, 58 was granted her angel wings on December 17th, 2017.  Her final days were spent surrounded by her closest family and friends who knew her best. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 2:00 PM EST at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home 4048 Macon Road Columbus, Georgia 31907. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 20, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 PM EST at the funeral Home.

“I love my family” and “I got this” were her famous words she preached on a regular basis.  Her kind heart and outspoken mind is what she is best known for.  No family function was complete, until she arrived!  Not only did she come to make everyone laugh, but she also made sure every dish was clean, dried and put away!

Her heart belonged to her children and grandchildren, this is where she found joy on a daily basis.  Although her children may have caused a few more wrinkles and grey hair, her daughters, Shanna and Jaimee, were always there to support her.  Her first grandchild, Gage, stole her heart when he came into this world and made her feel reborn again.  Just when her heart couldn’t fill up anymore, then came her second grandchild, Kadyn.  He brought a newfound love to her life and music to her ears and made her proud to be his “MawMaw”.

Her love and devotion for her marriage to Jimbo over the last 40 years is best remembered through their love of morning puzzles. Between the two of them, they have taught many how to unscramble words, letters and play their famous Sudoko.

Although she loved to garden and take care of her dogs…….her biggest smile can be found on vacation with a Margarita in hand!  Her infectious spirit and outgoing personality will be missed and always remembered.

Barbara is survived by her husband James “Jimbo” Burkett  Two loving daughters, Shanna Peters and Jaimee Burkett.  Two grandchildren, Gage and Kadyn.  Three great grandchildren, Khaleesi, McKenley & Roman.  Mother, Mildred Taylor.  Brother, Richard Peters, Sister Sandra Schaaf
