June Grimes, age 86, resident of Phenix City, Alabama, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 7, 2020. Funeral services are scheduled at the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 3738 US Hwy 431N, Phenix City, Alabama on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, 2 p.m. with Pastor Mary Ann Howard and Pastor Bob Heeger officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 from 1-2 p.m.
Mrs. Grimes, daughter of the late William Hallie Lawhon and Oma Lee Pelt Lawhon, was born May 5, 1934 in Crawfordville, Florida. She was a homemaker and Assembly of God by faith. Mrs. Grimes loved spending quality time with her family, playing the piano, and listening to Southern Gospel Music, particularly the Gaither’s. She enjoyed taking trips to the mountains, traveling, working in her yard, and watching Christian telecasts on television. The family remembers her as a faithful Christian lady who loved her family immensely, and someone that always enjoyed helping others.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Smith. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Charlie Grimes; two daughters, Hope Black and her husband Butch Thomas of Pinetta, Florida and Faith Lee of Phenix City; two grandsons, David Lee of Columbus, Georgia and Jason Black and his wife Kay of Bakersfield, California; one great-granddaughter, Kayla Black; one niece, Robin Smith of Valdosta, Georgia; one nephew, Todd Smith of Placida, Florida; other relatives and many friends.
