Beatrice McCune, 90, of Columbus, GA passed away on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Orchard View. Funeral services will be held at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Monday, October 4, 2021 beginning at 2:00 PM with Rev. Haynes Martin and Chaplain Daniel Mitchell officiating. The interment will conclude with a committal service at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, October 4, 2021 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM. In keeping with efforts to control the spread of COVID-19, social distancing guidelines will be observed and facemasks will be required.
Beatrice was born on January 11, 1931 in McComb, Mississippi to the late RT Forbes and Alma Mae Forbes. Throughout her life, Beatrice was always willing to help others. She was a dedicated mother and homemaker with a kind spirit, sweet smile, and loving heart. Gifted with a wide array of talents, Beatrice was a church soloist and enjoyed playing the piano, sewing, and cooking, as well as participating in competitive round and square dancing. She had a love for flowers and gardening and was always inspired by the beauty of nature while camping. Beatrice also had a special passion for cats. She became an active volunteer of the TNR, “Trap Neuter Release Program”, which helps to manage feral cat populations.
During her career, Beatrice was employed with the Columbus Consolidated Government in the DFACS department, became a Medical Assistant for Dr. Wolfe, Sr. for all in-office surgical procedures, and was a professional driver for Jay Auto in Columbus, GA moving vehicles all over the country, as far away as Canada and California. Beatrice was a member of Living Grace United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughters Brenda (Kenny Gray) Stevens of West Point, GA, Barbara Gill of Phenix City, AL, and Janet Shirah of LaGrange, GA; grandchildren Carey Shirah and Laine Shirah; and great-grandchildren Juniper Shirah, Jovie Shirah and Owen Chavez. Other than her parents, Beatrice is preceded in death by her husband William “Bill” McCune, sister Madonna Lovegrove, and her first husband James Stubbs.
