Bernice Horne

Bernice Wimberly Horne, 79 of Phenix City, AL passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 17, 2017 in the comfort of her home.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm EST on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 AT Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Dr. Ray Cummings officiating.  Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Horne was born November 19, 1938 in Dry Branch, GA was the daughter of the late William Yancey Wimberly and Maudie Wimberly. Mrs. Horne wore many hats in her lifetime, Wife, mother, teacher and business woman but she viewed her most important role in life as staying anchored in Christ and her faith and how others might see that faith in how she led her life. She had a special love for children and opened Golden Goose Nursery’s later known as Childcare Network. She was devoted to her husband and family and was quite content to be the wind beneath their wings. She enjoyed cooking and as one of the family’s favorite dishes, she mastered the art of potato salad and cheese biscuits.  She was a member of Golden Acres Baptist Church in Phenix City.  Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Curtis Horne, who recently passed at the end of December 2017, and two brothers, Clayton Wimberly, and Dennard Wimberly.

She is survived by four sons, Dana Horne and wife Katrina of Hamilton, GA, Ken Ingram and wife Kathy of Atlanta, GA, Alan Clark and wife Penny of Smiths Station, AL and Darren Horne and wife Becky of Phenix City, AL; daughter, Vicky Clark and husband Tim of Valley, AL; two sisters, Pauline  Chamblee and husband Troy, and Grace Turner and husband Dave, brother, Richard Wimberly and wife Betty Jane; (8) grandchildren, Jason, Jenee’, Joey, Justin, Jake, Kenny, Tyler and Trevor; numerous great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and extended family members; many caring friends.
