Bertha Mae Lanier Snellings

March 28, 1924 — July 23, 2016

Bertha Mae Lanier Snellings, 92, of Phenix City, AL, passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2016, at her home.

 

A graveside service will be held 12:00 pm EST Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at Parkhill Cemetery, with Rev. Mark Hudson officiating, according to Vance Memorial Chapel, Phenix City, AL. The family will receive friends this evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm EST at the funeral home.

 

Mrs. Snellings was born on March 28, 1924 in Phenix City, AL daughter of the late Joseph Lanier and Eula Mae Hendrix Lanier.  She was the owner of  Opelika Answering Service.  Mrs. Snellings was a member of several organizations, including the American Red Cross, American Legion Post 135 and the Shrinettes.  Additionally, she was a member of North Phenix Baptist Church.

 

Other than her parents, Mrs. Snellings was preceded in death by her first husband Arthur O’Neal Gates, her second husband, John Frank Snellings, Jr., a son, Eugene Gates, two grandchildren, Brandi Barker and Kenneth Gates and two brothers, J. P. Lanier and David Lanier.

 

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Angelon Barker and husband Joe of Phenix City, AL; one son, Richard Byron Gates and wife Linda of Phenix City, AL; two step-sons, John Albert Snellings and Frank Wilkerson Snellings; seven grandchildren, Dawn Williams (Randy), Jason Barker, Leisa Southern, Tracy Jamieson (Donny), Vikki Green (Buddy), Janiece Gates and Artie Gates; seventeen great-grandchildren, seventeen great-great-grandchildren, many other loving family members and caring friends.
