Bessie Powers, 93, of Phenix City, AL died Saturday April 4, 2020 at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home.
A private service will be held at Lakeview Memory Gardens according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 3738 HWY 431 N., Phenix City, AL.
Mrs. Powers was born March 17, 1927 in Phenix City, AL to the late Ivy Benjamin Newsome and Rosie B. Wade Newsome. She was a master gardener and a retired cafeteria worker with the Phenix City Board of Education. She worked at Schwobilt Clothing and the H. Rothchild Company. Mrs. Powers was a member of Pierce Chapel Assembly of God in Phenix City, AL. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 65 years, Henry Thomas Powers, a foster-son, Jimmy Shelnutt, her brothers and sisters, Ivy B. Newsome, Jr., Pauline Ganus, Betty Barth, George “Sonny” Newsome, Katie Newsome, and Mildred Bolding, and a grandchild, Misty Powers.
Survivors include her sons, Henry “Randy” Powers (Rosanne), and Larry R. Powers (Laura), foster-daughter, Loretta Shelnutt, sisters, Maxine Hunter and Sally Hout; brothers, Toby Newsome (Fay), Jerry Newsome, and Claude Scarbrough Newsome (Toko); grandchildren, Jason Powers (Holly), Scott Powers (Jenny), Matt Powers (Dixie), Alan Powers, Lacey Thomas (Jason), Dean Powers; great grandchildren, Haley, Joshua, Jackson, Paige, Talon, Tatum and Brooks Powers, Nickolas and Isabelle Jordan, Blake, Ethan and Owen Thomas, Cameron and Chase Powers, Cody Ellis-Powers, Hunter Powers, and Kylie Black.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to the Pierce Chapel Assembly of God Church, 2084 Co Rd 427, Phenix City, AL 36867.
