Betty Jean Cole Oakes

Betty Jean Cole Oakes, 85, of Phenix City, AL went to be with Jesus on Monday, November 16, 2020 with her family by her side.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 19, 2020 in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Dr. Rev. Johnny Ellison officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM till 7:00 PM on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Oakes was born April 16, 1935 in Troy, AL daughter of the late Frank Cole and Leila Wright Cole. She had retired from Fieldcrest Mills after 30 years of dedicated service. Mrs. Oakes was a faithful and active member of Golden Acres Baptist Church where she enjoyed her Sunday School Class and Seniors trips. She enjoyed her soap opera, General Hospital as well as Lifetime and Hallmark movies. Mrs. Oakes was a faithful supporter for over 52 years of the Happy Five, Singing Oakes and other local gospel groups. During her spare time, she would sew for her family and close friends. Her all-time favorite thing was to watch her numerous grandchildren play ball something she made a priority in her life. We will remember her as a lady who set a great example of being a loving and wonderful wife to her husband of 52 years and loving mother and grandmother. We will miss her in our daily routine, but she will forever live in our hearts.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Oakes was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Genie Denise Webb, daughter, Debra Kay Thomas; four siblings, Charles Cole, Lee Frank Cole, Lula Floyd and Jimmie Sue Robertson.
Survivors include her husband, J. T. Oakes, Phenix City, AL; daughter, Donna Stokes (Steve), Phenix City, AL, three sons, Tommy Webb (Vanessa), Hank Oakes (Cathy), and Jason Oakes (Kim) all of Smiths Station, AL; one sister, Janice Durham, Phenix City, AL; fifteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends, her faithful companion, a Chihuahua, Holly also survive.
