Betty Mills Bussey

Betty Mills Bussey, 87, of Columbus, GA passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at the Columbus Hospice House. Graveside services will be held at Parkhill Cemetery, 4061 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Friday, September 10, 2021 beginning at 3:00 PM with Rev. Shane Green officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, September 10, 2021 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM.

Betty was born on August 18, 1934 in Talladega, AL to the late Claud and Bessie Limbaugh. During her earlier adult years, she worked as a self-employed beautician and hairdresser. There was no question, however, that her true passion was taking care of children. Betty quickly became the official “nanny” for her entire family, caring not only for her son, but also for her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, as well as children of friends of the family. Her patience, understanding, giving heart, and genuine love allowed this extraordinary woman to leave a little piece of herself in the hearts of so many family members and friends. Betty will forever be remembered with the most cherished memories of a life lived to serve others.

Other than her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Horace Mills; her husband of 4 years, George Bussey; infant son, Horace Mills; and two sisters, Annie Ruth Kirby and Barbara Hardy.

Survivors include her son Joseph Mills of Columbus, GA; nieces, Genevieve Green, Deborah Culpepper (Larry), Kathy Mang, and Laura Edge; nephew, Norman D. Hardy, Jr. (Sherry); great-nieces and great-nephews, Bubba Green, Shane Green, Trey Green, Michael Culpepper, Sherri Dawes, Bradley T. Williams, Jonathan Edge, Trey Hardy, and Matthew Hardy. Numerous great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews also survive.
