Betty Phelps, age 94, resident of Opelika, Alabama, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2022 at her residence. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, 1:30 p.m. (EST) at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 4827 Lee Road 401, Salem, Alabama with Reverend Jordan Hoge and Reverend Ritchie Ashburn officiating, according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, Alabama.
Mrs. Phelps, daughter of the late Benjamin Luther Gullatt and Addie Pearl Thompson Gullatt, was born January 8, 1928 in Elmore County, Alabama. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for many years and retired from Cobb Hospital where she faithfully worked for over 30 years. Mrs. Phelps was active in her church and was devoted to creating the church bulletin for services at the church. She loved to study and research genealogy for both her and her husband’s family. Mrs. Phelps also enjoyed spending time outside with her flower garden and was known by her family for her cooking and recipes.
The family remembers her as a lady who loved her family immensely and was friendly to everyone.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Harold Michael Phelps and a brother, Benny Luther Gullatt.
Mrs. Phelps is survived by her husband of 43 years, Melvin Phelps of Opelika, Alabama; three grandchildren, Matthew Phelps and his wife Stephanie of Grape Vine, Texas, Mark Phelps and his wife Ashley of Phenix City, Alabama, and Terra Phelps of Ocean Shores, Washington; great-grand stepdaughter, Nirvana; many other relatives and friends.
