Betty Ruth Melson, 88, of Phenix City, AL passed away early Friday morning, November 17, 2023, at Arabella Health Care in Phenix City, AL
Ms. Melson was born August 18, 1935, in Lanette, AL, daughter of the late Jewell Earnest Thrower, Sr. and Mary Margaret “Maggie” Bullard Thrower. She worked with the Civil Service as a Weapons Inventory Specialist for many years and was retired. She was a lady that cherished many simple opportunities in life. She enjoyed arts and crafts, genealogy, cooking, baking, especially cakes, and was known for her famous cinnamon rolls from scratch. She was a Christian by faith.
Other than her parents, she was preceded by her husband, William N. Melson, Jr.; three brothers, Jewell Earnest Thrower, Jr., Roger Allen Thrower, and Jim Thrower; and three sisters, Jane Thrower, Mary Sue Thrower, and Jean Bullard.
She is survived by two sons, William Melson, II, of Birmingham, AL, and Darrell Melson of Reno, NV; one sister, Wanda Christian and husband Frank of Camp Hill, AL; brothers, Raymond Thrower of Richland, GA , Ervin Thrower and wife Hela of Atlanta, GA, and Derrell Thrower and wife Shelia of Smiths Station, AL; several grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews, and many extended family members.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm EST on Monday, November 20, 2023, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Rev. Robert Goodman officiating. A private interment will be held Tuesday morning at Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus, GA where she will be laid to rest with her husband, William N. Melson, Jr., who passed away in August of 1992. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home in Phenix City.
