Betty Lee Wood, 85, of Columbus, GA was called home to be her Lord on Monday, February 26, 2024, at Columbus Piedmont Midtown.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am EST on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Lakewood Baptist Church in Phenix City with Dr. Wayne Scarborough officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am EST, one hour prior to her memorial service at the church.
Mrs. Wood was born August 24, 1938, and is a lifelong resident of Columbus, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late William Parks Medley and Mattie Hill Carver Medley. She had many different careers with her last being an assistant manager with Border’s Book Store in Columbus for many dedicated years and was retired. She enjoyed cooking, reading, puzzle books, watching TV programs, and in her later years even became an avid sports fan, but her greatest joy was her family and especially spending time with all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend to all that were blessed to know her. She made everyone that knew her feel loved and welcomed. She was a longtime member of First Assembly of God Church in Phenix City.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hollis Woodrow Wood, Sr.; daughter, Cindy Grogg; stepdaughter, Arden Stewart; son, Andrew Jackson; six sisters, Ruth Brooks, Virginia Rhodes, Dee Watkins, Irene Wolfe, Estelle Scarborough, and Frances Dillworth, and two brothers, Harry Medley, and Bill Medley.
She is survived by two sons, James Jackson and Hollis “Woody” Wood, Jr. (Tara); one stepdaughter, Gloria Bishop; brother, George Medley (Leone); five grandchildren, Ashely Brown, Michelle Reed, Amber Grogg, Brooke Wood/Cunningham (Cody), and Gracie Wood; four step-grandchildren, Russell Stewart, Amanda Stewart, David Bishop, and Danyeil Bishop; six great-grandchildren, and one on the way; numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family members, and many caring friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital or the Valley Rescue Mission in memory of Mrs. Betty Lee Wood.
