Bobby Dean Swords, Sr., 85, of Smiths Station, AL passed away Friday, December 8, 2017 at the Bill Nichols Veterans Home in Alexander City, AL
Mr. Swords was born June 15, 1932 in Arlington, GA to the late Pearlie Mack Swords and Emma Lee Dykes Swords. He served our country proudly in both the United States Army and the Unites States Airforce. He retired after just over 23 years of service. He also proudly worked with Continental Coffee as a sales representative for 17 years. He enjoyed spending time in his yard and tinkering with different types of projects. Most of all, he enjoyed sharing quality time with and taking care of all his family. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Melba Duncan, and a brother, Marvin Swords.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Betty Lou Richardson Swords, his children, Bobby Dean Swords, Jr. and wife Robin, Laurie Swords Bodine, Timothy Swords and wife Lizbeth, and Kathy Swords and wife Rachel, three sisters, Mildred Caffey, Nell Spurlock, and Faye Craig, (12) grandchildren, (2) great grandchildren, a host of nieces, and nephews, extended family, and many friends and his loyal companion, Daisy.
The Swords family will hold a private memorial service with Military Honors on Friday, January 5, 2018 at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
