Bobbye Kennedy

Bobbye Joines Kennedy passed away peacefully with her son by side at Southwest GA Hospital in Cuthbert, GA.

Mrs. Kennedy was born in Richland, GA on October 13, 1925 to the late Robert L and Bessie S. Joines. She began her career at Western Union in Columbus, GA and was then employed with Tom’s in the 1950’s and 60’s. She met Homer Jean Kennedy and later married him in 1944. They resided in Harris County for a number of years and then moved to Naples, FL where they owned a Botanical Garden. They later returned to reside in Fortson, GA where Mrs. Kennedy played the organ and piano and was a faithful member of Piney Grove Baptist Church in Fortson, GA for over 40 years.

Other her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Homer Jean Kennedy and her beloved son Homer “Gene” Kennedy of Fortson, GA, sisters Martha Joines and Helen Taylor of Richland, GA, Elizabeth McCorkle Singer of Waverly Hall, GA and her brother Dr. Iverson w. Joines, M.D. of Tucker, GA.

Survivors include son Bob and Laney Kennedy of Shellman, GA; grandchildren, Jeff and Keri Kennedy of Gainesville, GA, Brooke and Franky Cook of Cataula, GA; great-grandchildren, Beth Ashley and Austin Kennedy and youngest Madison Henderson; sister-in-law, Mary Motes Joines of Tucker, GA. She has several nieces and nephews, but two very special nieces, Betty Jo McCorkle Faulkner and Wayne and Susan Taylor Meyer of Cummings, GA.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Joann Burgin Nursing Home and Southwest, GA Hospital in Cuthbert, GA for taking such great care of Mrs. Kennedy during her stay there.

Visitation will be at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City, AL from 5-7 on Tuesday. The chapel service will be Wednesday at Vance Memorial at 2pm with graveside following after the service. Funeral will be conducted by Pastor Mickey Adams.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that a contribution be made to Mrs. Kennedy’s church, Piney Grove Baptist Church in Fortson, GA 31808.
