Bonnie Jean Culberson

Bonnie Jean Blackwood Culberson, 60, of Fort Mitchell, AL passed away Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Gentiva Hospice at Franciscan Woods in Columbus, GA.

Bonnie was born May 26, 1957 in Lewiston, ME to George D. Blackwood and the late Constance E. (Maxim) Blackwood.   She attended Lewiston schools, and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1975.  Bonnie proudly served our country for 16 years in the United States Navy.  She served as General Manager of Chick-fil-A in Columbus, GA.  Bonnie was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, and aunt whom loved her family dearly. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, her visits to Maine, lighthouses, and helping those in need.  Bonnie never met a stranger.  She was a faithful member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Columbus, where she taught CCD and contributed immensely to help the homeless. 

She is survived by her father, George D. Blackwood, her loving and devoted husband, Jack J. Culberson, two sons, Corey Lee Culberson, and Christopher John Culberson, Lynne B. Adams and husband William R. Adams, III, Debra A. Blackwood and partner Nancy Gann, and Cindy Blackwood, one brother, James A. Blackwood and wife Sandra, two grandchildren, Brayden and Avery Culberson, several nieces, nephews, extended family, and many caring friends.

Other than her mother, Constance M. Blackwood, she was preceded in death by her brother, William G. Blackwood, maternal and paternal grandparents, and her mother-in-law, Madeleine E. Culberson.

A celebration of life memorial service with Military Honors will be held 4:00 pm EDT Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Father Brian O’Shaughnessy officiating.  The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm EDT at the funeral home prior to the memorial service.  A private interment will follow at a later date.  Online condolences may be shared at www.vancememorialchapel.net
