Burdella Rose Whitley

Burdella Rose Supan Whitley was born in Waucoma, Iowa on May 11, 1922 to Joseph Supan and Matilda Kipp Nauertz Supan. She passed away at her home on November 28, 2017.

Della lost her mother at age 4, and in 1927 her father married Mary Annie Whitley of Columbus, GA. She was 5 and he was 11 when she met the love of her life, Edward T. Whitley.  They were married on November 11, 1939 when she was 17 and he was 23. Together they had nine children. Ed passed away in 1975 at the age of 59.

Della was preceded in death by her parents and step-mother as well as her husband, her brothers: Frank, Fred and George Nauertz and Lavern and Emanuel Supan, sisters: Grace N. Paton and Dorothy S. Cadwell, a son, Ray L. Whitley, and a grandson, Jerry E. Whitley.

Survivors include her children: Linda (Sam) Honeycutt, James “Terry” Whitley, Donald (Ronda) Whitley, Brenda (Johnny) Sizemore, Gary (Angela) Whitley, Karen (Nelson) Pizarro, Vickie (Vince) Masi and Regina (Mark) Torbett, one daughter-in-law Melba Whitley, 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson.

Visitation will be Friday, December 1, 2017 from 6:00 till 8:00 pm at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Rd., Columbus, GA.  Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Boyd Cochran officiating.
