Capt. (Ret) Rodney “Rod” Lee Whedbee, 66, of Salem, AL passed away Saturday afternoon, January 25, 2025, in the comfort of his home.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am EST on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Pastor Bynum Orr officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to his memorial service at the funeral home in Phenix City.
Mr. Whedbee was born July 27, 1958, in High Point, NC, son of the late Bobby Ray Whedbee and Barbara Jean Holbrook Whedbee. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force serving during Desert Storm. He was the recipient of numerous commendations and service medals including being awarded Expert Marksman. He served as a minister to the homeless in Salisbury, NC, and was a member of United Christian Ministries International. Rod had great love for all sorts of cars and racing. He was a member of Association with 90 Racing, Le Mans Racing Series, and a member of the Porsche Club of America and Sports Cars Club of America. Rod loved Kart Racing and enjoyed participating at the World Karting Association week at Daytona International Speedway. He was the owner of RW Historic Motorcars, Aurora Sports Cars, and of Vitesse Racing. He loved his family, people, friends, animals, and especially his dog Tuck. He was a Christian and faithful to God’s Word and his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Greg Whedbee.
Left to cherish his memories, are his loving and devoted wife, Tammie Holloway Whedbee; son, Jonathon Whedbee; four daughters, Kanani Sanders (Darin), Natasha Kaufman (Justin), Sabrina Mageo (Chad), and Samantha Pennington (Chuck); sister, Tanya Clark; five grandchildren, Koa Eskew, Sloane Kaufman, Prather Kaufman, Lyric Welch, Yoshimi Welch; nieces, Natasha, Heather, and Sarah Clark, as well as numerous other loving family members.
Of special mention, Rod proudly served in the Air Force along with Major (Ret) Robert Hood (Cheryl) and Lt. Col. (Ret) Darrel Puckett (Margaret). They remained lifelong dedicated friends who enjoyed traveling and going on cruises with Rod and Tammie.
