Carol S. Spakes

Carol Sudduth Spakes, 77, of Phenix City, AL passed away Monday, July 3, 2023, while at Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital, Phenix City, AL.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM (EST) on Saturday, July 8, 2023, in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM (EST) Friday evening at the funeral home.

Mrs. Spakes was born April 23, 1946, in Columbus, GA, daughter of the late Booker Sudduth and Rosalind “Honey” Underwood Sudduth. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Columbus, GA. Over the years, Carol was an entrepreneur with her husband of 49 years owning several small businesses.  Mrs. Spakes was an artist by hobby who enjoyed creating beautiful pencil and charcoal sketches and painting Christmas balls for her loved ones. Each new piece had its own unique story. Because of her outgoing personality, she loved to travel and has never met a stranger, even in New York City. As an active person, dancing was a favorite past time that she enjoyed with her husband, family, and friends. Above everything else, she prioritized her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren! She was a special lady to everyone who met her. We will forever be grateful for all the fond memories, artwork, and solid foundation she laid for us.

Mrs. Spakes was preceded in death by her parents, Booker and Rosalind Sudduth and brother, Jessie B. “Skipper” Sudduth, Jr.

Carol is survived by her husband, Larry Joe Spakes, Phenix City, AL; three children, Justin Spakes (Collie), CA, JoAnna Eckberg (Eric), FL, Chase Spakes, AL; two sisters, June Capps (B.W), Leslie Dudley; four grandchildren, Lyla Marie Spakes, Joseph Michael Spakes, Marley Paige Eckberg, and Ronald David-Blu Eckberg; 2 step-children, Todd Spakes (Tina), TX, Shielah Orchard (Kim), KS,  and several step grand-children, nieces and nephews.
