Carolyn Norris

Carolyn Helms Norris, 67, of Columbus, GA passed away Saturday, May 12, 2018 at her home in Columbus, GA.

A celebration of life and funeral service will be held at 11:00 am CDT / 12:00 noon EDT Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Hebron Baptist Church in the Jack Community, Pike County, AL.  Interment will follow at the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EDT / 5:00 to 7:00 pm CDT at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City. The family will also receive friends on Thursday one hour prior to service at the church in the Jack community.

Carol was born June 22, 1950 in Troy, AL to Sarah B. Windham and the late Bowers “Bud” Helms.  She worked at the Elba Pallet Company and the Coffee County Probate Office in Elba, AL.  She graduated from Jordan High School in Columbus, GA, and later attended nursing school.  At an early age, she picked up the skill of sewing which led to her becoming an exceptional clothing designer and seamstress.  She had the natural gift of ingenuity, a creative spirit and many crafting abilities.  Growing up on a farm, she held on to her love for gardening and enjoyed spending time working in the yard tending to plants and flowers.  She enjoyed watching sports and was extremely passionate about the Alabama Crimson Tide.   She was a life-long member of Pine Level Baptist Church.

She is survived by her mother, Sarah Windham Gentry of Columbus, GA, one daughter, Lisa Deason and husband Drew of Smiths Station, AL, two sons, Brian Eric Payne and wife Katie of Louisville, KY, and Joseph Sage Norris and wife Danielle of Huntsville, AL.  One sister, Teresa G. Tidwell of Columbus, GA, and one nephew, Tory Gentry of Columbus, GA. Seven grandchildren, Caleb Yon and wife Charla, Ethan Payne, Hunter Deason, Lilly Payne, Parker Norris, Paxton Norris, and one on the way, Paisley Norris. One precious great granddaughter, EmmaLeigh.  Aunts, Alvernis Gallimore of Elba, AL, Jo Helms of Glenwood, AL, Mildred DeVane of Americus, GA and a host of cousins, extended family, close friends, and her beloved Bichon Frisse “Lexi”.
