SFC(Ret) Carroll John Melancon, Sr., 73, of Ft. Mitchell, AL passed away Saturday, January 27, 2018 at his home.
A Funeral Service will be held at Vance Memorial Chapel, with full military honors, 1:00pm Friday, February 2, 2018. A private burial will follow at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, February 02, 2018 before the service at Vance Memorial Chapel from 12 until 1.
Carroll was born September 1, 1944 in Breuxbridge, LA to the late Eno and Lula Melancon. Mr. Melancon proudly served his country for 21 years in the US Army. SFC Melancon was a combat veteran and earned numerous medals, awards, ribbons and commendations. After retiring, he started a second career and was known as “The Baker” at Martin Army Hospital before retiring there with Civil Service. He taught ice carving during Thanksgiving all across Ft. Benning and was a member of the Ft. Benning Masonic Lodge # 579.
Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Dorothy Melancon and his sister, Rose Greene.
Survivors include his children, Carroll John Melancon and Maria, Lula Mae Pelfrey and Pat, Teri Mitchell and Rodney and Angela Marie Love and Anthony; siblings, Beverly Villarreal and Ruben, Gauthier Melancon, Terry Paul Melancon and Maria and Whitney Greene; 13 grandchilden; 4 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
