Cecil B. Whitaker

Cecil B. Whitaker, 89, of Phenix City, AL passed away late Wednesday, November 18, 2015 in the comfort of his home while surrounded by his loving family.

Memorial services will be held 12:00 noon EST on Monday, November 23, 2015 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Rev. Brady Baird officiating.  Interment with Military Honors will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Mr. Whitaker was born June 6, 1926 in Caryville, FL to the late Johnnie Jeff Whitaker and Frances Reeder Whitaker.  He was retired with 20 years of service from the United States Air Force serving during WWII and Korea.  He enjoyed doing different types of carpentry jobs, helping and enjoying people.  He loved his many friendships and family.  He enjoyed fishing, traveling, the outdoors, and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 135 and was a member of Summerville United Methodist Church.  Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by several brothers.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 40 years, Josephine “Jo” Cumia Whitaker of Phenix City, AL, daughters, Diann May of San Antonio, TX, Frances Richardson of Carrabelle, FL, and Kelly Yokel of Tampa, FL, step-children, Mary Ring and husband Steve of Phenix City, AL, William Gray of Tallassee, FL, and Allen Gray and wife Melissa of Columbus, GA; one sister, Betty Campbell of Chipley, FL; (16) grandchildren, 11) great grandchildren, numerous other loving family members, church family, and many caring friends,
