Cecil Woodrow “Woody” McLemore, Jr., 78, a lifelong resident of Phenix City, AL passed away early Tuesday morning, September 3, 2019. He passed away peacefully while sleeping in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm EST on Friday, September 6, 2019 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Rev. Andy Rutherford officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EST at the funeral home.
Woody was the “loving son” of Dorothy Eason Woods and Cecil W. McLemore, Sr. He was born August 2, 1941 in Phenix City, AL. Woody began his career in the Army then returned to Phenix City where he was owner/operator of Mac’s TV Repair among other business interest later in his life.
He was most proud of his volunteer and community service efforts as a leader in the Phenix City Moose Lodge, Phenix City Council (9 years), and the Russell County Commissioners (4 years). He served our community and country proudly and was a Veteran of the United States Army.
He enjoyed fishing, boating, dirt track racing, NASCAR, watching old western movies, playing card games, helping people and serving his community. He never met a stranger and loved to talk to others.
His greatest love was his family and especially all his grandchildren, he loved supporting their sporting events and activities; they were his heart. He was a Baptist by faith. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Julia Faye McLemore Bruce, and a sister-in-law, Mary Helen Summers Fuller.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Shirley Summers McLemore; his daughter, Denise McLemore Morgan and her husband Raymond (who he thought of as a second son) , her children Justin Morgan and Haley Morgan Smith (husband, Dillon); his son, Cecil Andrew McLemore and his wife Montana, his children, Addie McLemore, Levia McLemore, and Laith McLemore; his two sisters, Sandy Newbold and husband Dan (Ocean Springs), and Sue O’Neal (Smiths); brothers-in-law, Rupert Summers and wife Jane (Valley, AL), and LaGary Summers and wife Yolanda (Phenix City), sister-in-law, Janet Howard and David (Columbus); numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and many many caring friends.
Flowers are welcome but contributions are encouraged to be made to Moose Charities or Kindred Hospice in memory of Mr. Cecil Woodrow McLemore, Jr.
