Charles “Charlie” Walter Widgeon

Charles “Charlie” Walter Widgeon, 56, of Columbus, GA passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown Hospital. A memorial visitation will be held from 11:00 AM- 1:00 PM Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA.

Charlie was born December 9, 1966 in Columbus, GA to Charles Billy Widgeon and Annie Louise “Allison” Widgeon Thompson. The way he lived reflected the love he had for life. Charlie was very much a people person and truly enjoyed bringing happiness to their hearts. Whenever he was with his family and friends, it was certain that Charlie’s entertaining skills would produce a lot of laughter and big smiles. Charlie also enjoyed being in the great outdoors, two of his favorite hobbies being hunting and fishing.

Charlie was a very talented man. He was a jack of all trades, including car detailing and landscaping, but his artistic ability set him apart from the norm. Charlie had a God-given gift to transform what he saw through his eyes into beautiful freehand drawings and airbrushed paintings for others to behold. This was a natural talent, never influenced by formal training, that created breathtaking results.

Charlie is preceded in death by his father Chuck Widgeon, his grandparents Espy Widgeon and Miss Annie, Samuel C. Allison, and Mary Francis; stepfather Jack Thompson, and brother David Widgeon.

Charlie is survived by his daughter Samantha Leigh VonMeyer (Pat) of Virginia Beach; mother Annie Thompson; sister Sherry Watford (Ricky) of Unicoi, TN and special adopted sister Melonie Emerson-Taft; brothers Richard “Bubba” Harston (Sherri) of Columbus, GA and John Thomas Widgeon (Wanda) of Woodland, AL; grandchild Tallulah Rae; nephews and nieces Shannon, KK, Michelle, Morgan, and Hunter; close-as-a-brother friend Alan Emerson; and four-legged companion “Fat Baby”.
