Charles Jackson Grimes, 94, of Phenix City, AL passed away Monday, June 10, 2024, in the comfort of his daughter’s home in Pinetta, FL.
Funeral services with Military Honors will be held at 3:00 pm EDT on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Pastor Seth Carroll officiating. A private Interment will take place on Monday, June 17, 2024, at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2:00 to 3:00 pm EDT at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City.
Mr. Grimes was born December 31, 1929, in Arran, FL, son of the late Joy Franklin Grimes and Jessie Ophelia Robinson Grimes. He was employed as an aircraft technician with the Civil Service at Fort Benning, GA and retired after 30 years of dedicated service. He served our country honorably and was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. He loved building airplanes and flying many different and unique aircraft. He enjoyed traveling, the beach, fishing, nature, and scuba diving, and he especially loved Hawaii. He was a Christian and a long-time member of Auburn Road Assembly of God Church in Phenix City.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Barbara June Lawhon Grimes, two sisters, Romona Russell, and Karen Hartsfield, and two brothers, William H. Grimes, and Walter Ray Grimes.
He is survived by two daughters, Hope Black of Pinetta, FL and Faith Lee of Phenix City, AL; one brother, J. Franklin Grimes and wife Margaret of Cottondale, FL; two grandsons, Marcus David Lee of Phenix City, AL and Jason Black and his wife Kay of Irvine, CA; one great-granddaughter, Kayla Black; several nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and many caring friends.
