Charles Stephen Messer, 78, of Smiths Station, AL passed away early Wednesday morning, June 28, 2023, at the Columbus Hospice House in Columbus, GA.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am EDT on Friday morning, June 30, 2023, at Lakeview Memory Gardens with Rev. Glenn Maddox officiating. The family will receive friends at the graveside on Friday from 9:30 am to 10:00 am prior to the service at Lakeview Memory Gardens according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City.
Mr. Messer was born September 7, 1944, in Columbus, GA, son of the late Stephen Messer and Eula Mae Gullatt Messer. He was a man of great pride and integrity who believed work ethics and loyalty was important. He served as a technician for Coca Cola with 30 years of faithful service and was retired. He also dedicated his services as a Reserve Deputy for Lee County Sheriff’s office serving Lee County, AL and the surrounding community. He loved tinkering with different projects and fixing things. He enjoyed the outdoors, nature, hunting and fishing. He was a Baptist by faith.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jean Messer.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Gaynelle T. Messer of Smiths Station, AL; son, Steve Messer and wife Theresa of Saraland, AL; one sister, Susan Saxon and husband Nathan of Crawford, AL; three grandchildren, Kayla Stanley and husband Tyler, Kaydie Messer, and Kenadi Messer; two precious great-grandchildren, Ryker and Grady, and one new little angel on the way, Tilly, due in early July; several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and numerous friends.
