Covan Douglas Pennington, 77, of Phenix City, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital, Columbus, Georgia. Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, May 24, 2021 at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Fort Mitchell, Alabama with Reverend (Dr.) Thomas Peavy officiating. The interment will follow. Covan was born on May 29, 1943, in Checotah, Oklahoma, the son of Covan Pennington and Marguerite Porter Pennington. He served his country proudly in the US Army, serving during the Vietnam War. He worked in construction as an electrician for many years after retiring from the former GNB/Exide battery smelter as plant superintendent. He was a quiet man and didn’t talk much. He loved his family and his extended family and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is preceded in death by father, Covan A Pennington; mother, Marguerite Porter Pennington and a granddaughter, Christina Wright. He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Darnell Harden Pennington; three daughters, Gina Kay (Ricky) Wright, Karen (Ward Nichols) Acosta and Amy (Andy) Williams; two sons, Richard Tyson and Warren Tyson; two sisters, Ruth Fritz and Jeanne Matthews; brother, Walter (Terry) Pennington; thirteen grandchildren, Gina, Elizabeth, Covan, Joseph, Patrick, Zachary, Angela, Matthew, Emily, Ashley, Shelby, Taylor and Tatum; four great-grandchildren, Adalynn, Emma, Rylee and Hadley.
