David “Gene” Galbraith, age 72, resident of Columbus, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at St. Francis Hospital. Graveside services are scheduled at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, 553 US Hwy 165, Fort Mitchell, Alabama on Friday, May 19, 2023, 11 a.m. with Reverend Isiah Lewis officiating, according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, May 18, 2023 from 5-7 p.m.
Mr. Galbraith, son of the late Billie Eugene Galbraith and Lillie Mae Taylor Galbraith, was born February 7, 1951 in Anchorage, Alaska. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving his country honorably for over 10 years. After his military career, he began working as an auto mechanic at AAFES at Fort Benning; Western Auto; and Midas, spanning over a 20 year career before retiring. Mr. Galbraith was Baptist by faith and a member of the VFW, Post 665. He enjoyed spending time with his dogs; fishing; NASCAR; Auburn football; and New York Yankee baseball. However, the biggest hobby in his life was playing Bingo. The family remembers him as a man who gave much to many; enjoyed spending time with friends; but most of all enjoyed spending quality time with his family, particularly his grandson.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Sue Hubbard Galbraith.
He is survived by one son, Joey Galbraith and his wife Kelly of Pensacola, Florida; one grandson, Joseph “Jo Jo” Galbraith, also of Pensacola, Florida; two sisters, Susan Turley of Columbus, Georgia and Linda Ward and her husband Thomas, also of Columbus; one brother, James “Jimmy” Galbraith and his wife Lynn of Cusseta, Georgia; many other relatives and friends.
