David Kite

February 4, 1944 — November 3, 2020

David Kite, age 76, resident of Fort Mitchell, Alabama, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at Columbus Hospice House.  Funeral services are scheduled at Oswichee Baptist Church, 1049 AL Hwy 165, Fort Mitchell, Alabama on Thursday, November 5, 2020, 2 p.m. with Reverend Ralph Henderson officiating, according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, Alabama.  Interment with military honors will follow at Oswichee Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service on Thursday, November 5, 2020 from 12 noon till 2 p.m.

Mr. Kite, son of the late Lester Kite and Martha Elizabeth Moore Kite, was born February 4, 1944 in Columbus, Georgia.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served his country honorably during the Vietnam Era Conflict, and was awarded the Vietnam Campaign Medal w/Device 1960 and the Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Bronze Stars for his meritorious service.  After his military service, he worked at Tallapoosa River Electric Company, where he worked for several years until he retired.  Mr. Kite was a devoted Christian and active member of Oswichee Baptist Church; Dixie Senior Golf Club; and member of the Columbus Senior Softball League.  He was an avid golfer, enjoyed both fishing and hunting, and loved to be out riding his tractor.  Mr. Kite enjoyed planting vegetables; watching Alabama football games; Atlanta Braves baseball games; and numerous other sporting events on television.  The family remembers him as a loving husband, father, and man who never met a stranger, and was willing to help anyone at any time.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Dennis Kite and Dean Kite; and a brother, Carl Kite.  Mr. Kite is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gloria Kite of Fort Mitchell, Alabama; daughter, Vonda Messick and her husband Jimmy of Phenix City, Alabama; two brothers, Cecil Kite and his wife Gwen of Phenix City; and Gerald Kite and his wife Linda of Fort Mitchell; two grandchildren, Austin Messick of Phenix City and Amianne Reid and her husband Raymond, also of Phenix City; great-granddaughter, Raelyn Reid; one adopted family, the Fodors; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Oswichee Baptist Church, Attn:  Building Fund, P.O. Box 266, Fort Mitchell, Alabama 36856.
