David Keith Perkins passed away surrounded by loved ones Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2024, after bravely facing multiple health issues. Born on November 9, 1942, in Wheelersburg, Ohio, to William Howard “Perk” and Mary Perkins, David spent his early years in Wheelersburg and Portsmouth, Ohio, graduating from Wheelersburg High School. He went on to earn a business degree from Troy University during his time serving in the US Army.
David dedicated 23 years to the US Army, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant before his honorable discharge. His service included tours in Vietnam, South Korea, Germany, and various US bases, with his final duty station being Ft. Benning, where he managed mess halls across the base. After retiring from the Army, David continued his service at Ft. Benning as a civil servant and later with private companies, supporting soldiers for another 20+ years.
A devoted member of The Korean Presbyterian Church of Columbus for over 40 years, David also enjoyed spending time at Johnny’s New York Style Pizza, assisting his daughter Kim and the staff. He took immense pride in the family business.
David leaves behind his beloved wife of 54 years, Kim Pok San of Pyeongtaek, South Korea; brothers Gary (Kathy) Perkins of Portsmouth, Ohio, and Brent (Sherry) Perkins of Kissimmee, Florida; devoted daughter Kimberly (Eddie) Smith of Marion County, Georgia; daughters Michelle Ruby of Jacksonville, Florida, Carol Perkins of Jacksonville, Florida; and his son Gene (Meg) Perkins of Columbus, Georgia. He cherished his role as “Papaw” to his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his half-sister, Kandi Craig (Scott) of Portsmouth, Ohio, as well as stepsisters Debbie Duzan (Gary) of Wheelersburg, Ohio, and Kristine Ross (Dan) of New Albany, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Roger Perkins as well as his stepmother, Jewell Renison. The family is deeply grateful to the caregivers at Legacy Reserve Assisted Living facility for their compassionate care.
David, often referred to as "Perk" like his father, Howard, was known for his big heart and willingness to help others. A stickler for detail, he was always reliable and ensured tasks were done right. We are certain that today he is joyfully reuniting with his loved ones in heaven and perhaps looking for a good spot to fish.
