Delores Van Dyke

August 12, 1929 — April 19, 2016

Delores Adams Van Dyke, 86, of Columbus, GA, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at Gentiva Hospice House.

 

A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, April 25th, at 12:30 PM at Vance Memorial Chapel with burial to follow at the Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, April 24th from 3 – 4 PM at Vance Memorial Chapel.

 

Delores Adams Van Dyke was a lung cancer survivor who was active in Belvedere Baptist Church, Doll and Garden clubs and bowling leagues in West Palm Beach, FL.  

Delores was a military spouse who joins in death her husband, SGM (ret) William E. Van Dyke, after being the light of his life for nearly 67 years. 

Delores was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother whose greatest love was hosting family and friends.  Delores was an avid cook whose renowned Brunswick stew supported family gatherings for years.  Her love and devotion to family transcends generations and her tenacity of spirit allowed her to support her husband’s military service through two wars.  Delores’ love of music and the painting at home.  She imparted to her son and grandchildren a love of life that was exhibited by spending quality time with them over the years; this included playing video games, and teaching her grandchildren the things she loved doing.   

Other than hers parents, James Charles Adams and Meta Izzell Adams, she is preceded in death by her husband SGM(ret) William Edward Van Dyke, Sr.; son, William Edward Van Dyke, Jr.; siblings J.C. Adams, Myra Moore, Dot May and Carolyn King; and a great-grandson William.

 

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Kathy Van Dyke; grandchildren, Nikki Dugger (Andy) their children, Jessica, Kyle, Joshua and Ezekiel; William E. Van Dyke III (Lize-Mari) their children, Rayyel and William ”Quatro”; and Melissa Austin and her children, Israel, Josiah and Abel; siblings, Richard Adams and Barbara Cook; extended family and many caring friends.
