Diane Maurer Shelton

January 19, 1947 — January 5, 2016

Diane Maurer Shelton of Smiths Station, Alabama, made her transition on January 5, 2016.  She was born in Morgantown, WV to Donald and Patricia Maurer. She grew up in Opa Locka, FL, and lived there until 1978 when she moved to this area.  She has been a resident of Smiths Station since 1987. She worked at the Medical Center for over twenty years and loved the time she spent there caring for patients and staff. Her most loved role was that of mother, grandmother and wife.  In October of 1983, she began a journey in a new way of life which has brought her much peace, joy, and involvement in the lives of others whose paths would not normally cross.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Mark, and her sister Donna.

She leaves behind her husband Billy Joe Shelton, her children Jason (Danielle) Leon, Jarrett Leon, and Charlene (Kurt) Weismantel and her grandchildren:  Cheyenne Leon, Dakota Leon, Keric Weismantel and Ryan Weismantel. She also leaves behind her brother Tim (Robin) Maurer and many relatives and friends, including her furry friends Dixie and Bitsy.

There will be a memorial service at Crawford Road Baptist Church at 2pm Sunday, January 10, 2016. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Gentiva Hospice in Phenix City who provided her with wonderful care.
