Donald Monroe Benge, 95, of Phenix City, AL passed away Sunday, March 6, 2016 at his home.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Golden Acres Baptist Church beginning at 1:00 with visitation one hour before the service. Burial will follow at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. Pastor Ray Cummings and Pastor Roosevelt Oakes will officiate according to Vance Memorial Chapel.
Mr. Benge was born December 26, 1920 in Hamilton, OH to the late Monroe and Geneva Benge. He served our country during WWII and was a Veteran of the United States Army earning the Bronze Star. He continued serving in the Army National Guard for over 20 years. He was a longtime faithful member of Golden Acre Baptist Church and taught Sunday School there for over 50 years.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Donald E. Benge and two brothers, Ed Benge and Bob Benge.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years Christine Benge; children, Diane Pritchett and Doug Benge; siblings, Frances Benge, Denny Benge and Harold Benge; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and many caring friends.
