Donald Roy Black, 75, of Phenix City, AL, passed away Friday, November 20, 2015, in Columbus, GA.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 pm Monday, November 23, 2015, at Golden Acres Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Cummings officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 2 until 3 before the service and a private burial will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens.
Mr. Black was born April 25, 1940 in Crenshaw County, AL son of the late Roy Seborn Black and Gracie Ballard Black. He worked for Bill Heard Chevrolet for several years before opening his own business, Black’s Automotive Repair. Mr. Black was also a longtime member of Golden Acres Baptist Church. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Other than his parents he is preceded in death by a son, Terry Roy Black.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sarah Black; children, Michael Roy Black and wife Tara of Dothan, AL and Charla Overby and husband Mark of Columbus, GA; 3 sisters, Elouise Shirley, Leah Harris and Angeline Golden; 4 grandchildren, Brach Bessant and wife Kelsey, Colby Black, Brody Black and Carolyn Overby; 2 great-grandchildren, Luke and Landon Bessant; several nieces, nephews and other extended family.
