Donald Jasper Smith, 86, of Smiths Station, AL passed away early Friday morning, May 17, 2024, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, AL

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm EDT Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Rev. Donald Edwards officiating.  Interment with Military Honors will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EDT at the funeral home in Phenix City.

Mr. Smith was born June 18, 1937, in Phenix City, AL, son of the late Jasper Rudolph Smith and Mary Love Tice Smith.  He was employed with the United States Government serving as an Agent with the Department of Internal Revenue Service.   He was a veteran of the United States Airforce.  He enjoyed reading, traveling, and watching sports, especially football.  Mr. Smith was a longtime member of Philadelphia Baptist Church in Smiths Station.  He had served as a Sunday School teacher, Superintendent of Sunday School, and as Chairman of the Finance Committee.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Joy Lim, and two brothers, Lawrence Smith, and Gerald Smith.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving and devoted wife of 43 years, Marie Alberson Smith; five children, Donna Woodall, John Smith, Amy Marie Taylor, Chris Taylor, and Kelly Stadler and husband Bryant; brother-in-law, Dr. Heng Lim, Eighteen grandchildren; Fifteen great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family members; church family and many caring friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to the Philadelphia Baptist Church Sunday School Ministry in memory of Mr. Donald Jasper Smith.
