Donna's life is a remarkable story of personal achievements, passion, and deep connections to both her community and family. Born on January 12, 1949, in Elba, Alabama, to Roy D. and Jerrie Kate Pope Davis, Donna demonstrated an early drive and dedication that marked her adult years.
Her career in real estate was especially impressive. Starting out as a realtor and real estate appraiser, Donna quickly made her mark by achieving the "Million Dollar Club" status in her first year, an extraordinary accomplishment. She continued her professional journey by founding DRG and Associates with her husband Dennis. After a successful career, she retired in 1996, but her drive didn’t end there.
Donna’s post-retirement years were filled with joy and fulfillment as she worked as an office manager for Dr. John Barnes at Barnes Chiropractic Clinic, where she developed close friendships with patients and felt a deep sense of satisfaction in helping others. She was also actively involved in many organizations, including Beta Sigma Phi sorority, the Columbus Chapter #261 Order of the Eastern Star, the National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers, and the National Association of Master Appraisers. Donna’s spirit of giving back extended to the Valley Rescue Mission Ladies Auxiliary and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Columbus/Fort Benning Shrine Club, among other causes.
A devout member of the Rose Hill Church of Christ, Donna took part in its services and activities for many years, finding joy and support in the church community. She was also known for her love of flowers and crafting. With a Certificate in Proficiency in Flower Arranging and Floristry, which she earned in 1969, Donna's green thumb was evident in her meticulously cared-for plants and floral arrangements. Crafting was another one of Donna’s passions; she had a rare talent for recreating crafts that she saw and loved with a special focus on creating beauty through flowers and crafts. This skill brought her joy throughout her life, especially in her retirement.
Donna's greatest legacy was her boundless love and care for those around her. A true people person, she had a remarkable ability to connect with everyone she met. Whether family, friends, or acquaintances, Donna was always there to lend a hand. She was a constant source of support, always ready to help with whatever was needed, without hesitation or expectation. Her deep love for her family was the cornerstone of her life. Donna’s devotion to her loved ones knew no bounds, and she would have done anything in the world for them. Her family was her greatest pride. Above all, Donna's unwavering faith in God shaped her life, guiding her actions and inspiring her to live a life of kindness, generosity, and love.
Donna is survived by her sons Jerry Allen Barnette Jr. (Trish) and Dennis R. Greene Jr. (Gayla) and grandchildren Jessica (Eric), Matthew, Ashlee (Dalton), Rebecca (Kevin), Summer, Clay, Christopher, Harley, Jayley, and Mitchell; great-grandchildren Alana, Gavin, Cooper, Justin, Wyatt, Tyler, Harper, Aiden, Conner, Rylee, and Landon; uncle Dan Pope; aunts Janet Childs, Linda Pope, and Shelby Pope; numerous other family members and friends.
