Donnell “Don” Shepard, 89, of Phenix City, AL passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Gentiva Hospice at Franciscan Woods in Columbus, GA.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm EDT Friday, July 8, 2016 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Rev. Roosevelt Oakes and Rev. Marvin Minton officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EDT at the funeral home.
Mr. Shepard was born August 13, 1926 in Louisville, AL to the late George Dewey Shepard and Annie Will Green Shepard. He was the co-owner of Phenix Drive-In Motors and retired after 35 years of service to the Phenix City community and the surrounding areas. He attended Crawford Road Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and was known as a man of great character. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Shepard Shelton, a sister, Dorothy Faye Morrison, several infant sisters and brothers.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 68 years, Edna Joyce Smith Shepard, son, Donald “Steve” Shepard and wife Loree, son-in-law, Berry Shelton, two sisters, Margaret Campbell, and Mary Matusevich, one brother, Eugene Shepard and wife Betty, three grandchildren, Tressa Russell (Robert), Savannah Jeter (Billy), and Abby Shepard, and one precious great grandson, Jackson Jeter.
