Dorothy Jenkins Beck, 91, of Smiths Station, AL passed away on Monday, July 24, 2017. A funeral service is scheduled for 11am, Friday, July 28, 2017 at Lakewood Baptist Church with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. A private burial will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery.
Mrs. Beck was born June 7, 1926 in Russell County, AL to the late Raymond M. Jenkins and Velma Walters Jenkins. She attended school at Dixie Elementary and graduated from Central High School. She attended the University of Alabama, Huntsville and taught kindergarten at the Whitesburg Baptist Church for twenty years, sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for 35 years.
In addition to her parents and brothers and sisters she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Desmond Beck. They were residents of Huntsville for 42 years where Mr. Beck was associated with NASA as an engineer.
Mrs. Beck participated in many community activities in Huntsville and became very active in Phenix City where they returned to enjoy their retirement days. They travelled extensively all over the world, played a lot of golf together and she could tell many fascinating stories about her travels. She was very active in Lakewood Baptist Church where she sang in the Amen Choir, which she loved and enjoyed and faith Sunday School Class. She loved to entertain friends and family and she was always willing to open her home for these occasions.
She is survived by her three sons Desmond Beck, Jr., of Houston, TX, Phil Beck and wife Anne of Salt Lake City, UT and Don Beck of Denver, CO. Also, two grandchildren; Corinne Beck of Denver, CO and Desmond Beck and wife Tiffany of Memphis, TN and great-grandchild, Keller Beck. Two special sisters Mrs. Jeanine Long of Smith Station, AL and Mrs. Bobbie Redmon of Phenix City, AL and many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Mrs. Beck enjoyed life and she loved people.
