Dorothy Ida Bishop Howard, 84, of Phenix City, AL passed away peacefully on Monday morning, March 18, 2024, at Arabella Health Care in Phenix City, AL.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am EDT Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Rev. Isaac Gilbert officiating. Interment will follow at Ladonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Phenix City. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home in Phenix City.
Mrs. Howard was born February 11, 1940, in Ft. Benning, GA, daughter of the late Rev. Joseph Herman Bishop, Sr. and Mamie Adelle Hoyle Bishop. She served as a schoolteacher for the Phenix City School System and Russell County School District for many years loving and contributing to the education of young elementary students. She was a graduate of Auburn University and a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Phenix City and Russell County. She enjoyed traveling, reading, and spending quality time with all her family. She was a longtime member of Summerville Baptist Church in Phenix City.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harmon Luther Howard; two sisters, Jacqueline Hoyle Bishop and Angela Adelle Bishop Roland, and one brother, Joseph Herman Bishop, Jr.
She is survived by three sons, Harmon Ricky Howard (Susan) of Crawford, AL, Richard Daniel Howard (Jill) of Houston, TX, and David Richmond Howard (Penny) of Ocala, FL; one brother, Jimmy Bishop (Patty) of Beulah, AL; nine grandchildren, Gennifer Goldmann (Erik), Jared Howard (Karen), Lacey McGovern (Jason), Nolan Howard (Amanda), Siera Mason (Samuel), Gavin Howard (Tiffani), Avery Barrentine (Caleb), Misty Stocks, and Lauren Howard; sixteen great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, extended family members, church family, and many caring friends.
