Dorothy Jean Hasson, known to many as “Mama Jean”, Age 72, resided in Columbus, Ga, passed away Monday, September 8, 2014 at Columbus Hospice House. A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday September 11, 2014, at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA. Reverend Travis Sheppard will be officiating services. The family will receive friends, Wednesday, September 10, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. EST at the funeral home. Dorothy Jean Hasson was born July 23, 1942 in Columbus, Ga, daughter of the late William Floyd Riles, Sr. and Evelyn Baskin Riles. Dorothy was married to Russell Eugene Hasson for 45 wonderful years. She was employed with Tom Houston's for many years. Dorothy Jean was a founding member of the First United Pentecostal Church of Columbus in January of 1953. Her church is now known as The Church of Columbus. Her dedication was service to her Lord, family and her church. Her passion was welcoming others and making them feel loved and letting them know how much Jesus loved them. Dorothy Jean loved to cook “southern style” and lived to serve others. She is leaving her legacy behind to her husband, Russell Eugene Hasson and children; Carl and Dawn Thrasher, Gary and Brenda Thrasher, Jim and Sandy Thrasher Wiersma, Michael and Carol Hasson. She had eleven grandchildren; Elicia Thrasher, Tommy Martin, Daryl Martin, Gerald Thrasher, Meghan Thrasher Catrett, Mallory Thrasher, Amber Taylor, Chad Whitaker, Candice Whitaker, C.J. Cotton and Michael Hasson, Jr. Dorothy Jean also had 8 Great Grandchildren. Her siblings include W.F. Riles, Jerry Riles, Wayne Riles, Sandra Blizzard, Tony Riles and Tammy Dudley. She had numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
