On May 12, 2024, the world lost a remarkable soul with the passing of Dorothy Mae Newman in Columbus, Georgia. Born on May 19,1938, Dorothy's journey on this earth was one marked by love, faith, and unwavering dedication. A visitation will be held at Grace Baptist Church in Columbus at 1:00 PM on Friday May 17th followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00 PM at the same location with Pastor Seth Hon officiating. Friends and loved ones are welcome to attend the Interment Service at Parkhill Cemetery immediately after.
Educated and accomplished, Dorothy earned a Clerical Certificate from Columbus College, showcasing her pursuit of knowledge and excellence throughout her life. Dorothy worked as a bookkeeper for United Oil until her well-deserved retirement. Her commitment to precision and hard work left a mark on those she worked with and served as an inspiration to many.
Outside of work, Dorothy's true passion was her dedication to her faith. A devoted Christian, she found joy in attending Grace Baptist Church in Columbus. She lovingly shared her light with the children of the church, who affectionately called her 'Nanny,' a testament to the impact she had on their lives.
In her final days, Dorothy was surrounded by the love of her surviving family: daughter Cindy Scarbrough and her husband Kenneth; daughter Sheila Miller; son Kenneth Paul Newman Jr.; grandchildren Amanda Wood (David), Christopher DuBois (Samantha), Jason Newman, Kevin Newman, Zachary Newman (Jessica), Mollie Arnold (Dustin), Hunter Miller, and Gage Miller; as well as several siblings and many precious great-grandchildren who were blessed by her presence.
Though departed from this world, Dorothy is reunited in peace with her parents Clarence Suggs and Ernie Mae Hollis Suggs and her beloved son Jerry Michael Newman and grandson Colby Michael Miller. Though we grieve this great loss, we find comfort in knowing she is in the presence of the Lord.
Dorothy Mae Newman's legacy of love, faith, and kindness will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
