Dorothy Olene Griffin

Dorothy Olene Griffin, 93, of Salem, AL passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Parkwood Nursing Home.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am EST, on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at Main Post Cemetery in Ft. Benning with Reverend Grant Parker officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at Vance Memorial Chapel, Phenix City, AL.

Mrs. Griffin was born on June 4, 1920, in Ft. Benning, GA, the daughter of the late James and Maggie Saunders. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1939 and was raised in the Bradley area of Ft. Benning. Known as Aunt Dot and Aunt Tiny, she loved people and caring for animals.

Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Horace T. Griffin and brothers, Bobby Saunders and Edward Saunders.

She is survived by a sister, Margaret Hamilton; 3 nieces, Dorothy Hamilton, Wendy Reese and Vicky Rybik; nephew, Steve Saunders; 2 great nieces, 1 great nephew; several great great nieces and nephews and several pets.
