Mr. Douglas Earl Stokes

Mr. Douglas Earl Stokes, 66, of Phenix City, AL passed away Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Piedmont Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, GA.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Monday, September 11, 2023 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City, AL with Rev. Allen Newman officiating.  A private interment will follow the service.  The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm Sunday afternoon, at the funeral home.

Mr. Stokes was born August 6, 1957 in Greenville, NC, son of the late Elwood Earl Stokes and Polly Frances Fleming Stokes.  He retired from the Phenix City Police Department with over 25 years of service and then served another five years at Troy University.  Mr. Stokes was a former Mason and thirty-third degree Scottish Rites with the Wilson Williams Lodge in Phenix City, AL.  He was also a long time member of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP).  Mr. Stokes enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 25 years, Dianne Hubbard Stokes.

He is survived by a son, Stephen Stokes of Phenix City, AL; daughters, Stephanie Stokes of Phenix City, AL and Crystal McDonald and husband Justin of Lockridge, IA; a sister, Deborah Pienkowski and husband John of Auburndale, FL; grandchildren, Caleb Stokes and Korbyn Hamilton; a niece, Kimberly Calton (Matt) and her children, Katie and Elizabeth; a nephew, Michael Pienkowski (Jennifer) and his children, Autumn and Benjamin; as well as extended family, friends and all of his brothers and sisters in blue.
