Douglas Woodrow Williams, Jr., 76, of Columbus, GA passed away Thursday, February 22, 2018 at his residence.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Monday, February 26, 2018 at Philadelphia Baptist Church in Smiths Station, AL with Rev. Skip Speed officiating. Interment will follow at Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening, February 25, 2018 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Vance Memorial Chapel, Phenix City, AL.
Mr. Williams was born July 11, 1941 son of the late Douglas Woodrow Williams, Sr. and Lilly Gray Williams Griffen. He worked in the automotive industry most of his career. Mr. Williams was the owner of American Transmission in Macon, GA and later the owner of Patriot Automotive in Warner Robins, GA for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved boating, fishing, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Williams was also a long time member of Philadelphia Baptist Church.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Zita Mae Williams; a daughter, Michelle Clark Whitman; three sisters, Priscilla Schackai, Inez Russell, and Pauline Williams.
Mr. Williams is survived by his children, Michael Williams and wife Sharon of Smiths Station, AL, Scott Williams and wife Melissa of Duluth, GA, Sandy Scroggins and husband Tommy of Phenix City, AL and Debi Leeder and husband Tom of Milledgeville, GA; three sisters, Dorothy Barlow and husband Carl of Dothan, AL, Jewel Birkhoff and husband George of New Orleans, LA and Liz Martin and husband Dick of Houston, TX; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and many extended family.
