Dr. John Clayton Metcalf, age 62, resident of Phenix City, Alabama, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022 at Piedmont Northside Medical Center, Columbus, Georgia. Memorial services are scheduled at Lakewood Baptist Church, 4011 Lakewood Drive, Phenix City, Alabama on Saturday, October 22, 2022, 11a.m. EST with Reverend M.R. Hamilton officiating, according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 3738 US Hwy 431N, Phenix City, Alabama. The visitation is one hour prior to the service starting at 10:00 a.m. EST.
Dr. Metcalf, son of the late Manford D. Metcalf, Sr. and Luenette Morris Metcalf, was born June 2,1960 in Columbus, Georgia. He was a member of Calvary Bible Fellowship Church, Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania and attended locally at Lakewood Baptist Church. Dr. Metcalf had served as a music professor at Kutztown University for 32 years teaching low brass, composition, and music technology, and was also director of several bands, brass ensemble, and was requested to record nearly all music performances during his teaching tenure. He was a member of the Lancaster British Brass Band, Ringgold Band, wrote field shows for local High Schools, was asked to be a guest conductor for honor bands throughout the region, and was always arranging hymnals for church on Sunday morning.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Donna Lee Siciliano Metcalf of Phenix City; three daughters, Emily Metcalf of Lebanon, Tennessee, Angela Metcalf Fitzpatrick and her husband Timothy of Palmyra, Pennsylvania, and Abigail Metcalf of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; three brothers, Manford Metcalf, Jr. and his wife Sonja of Hamilton, Georgia, Daniel Metcalf of Columbus, Georgia, and Gary Metcalf and his wife Dawn, of Columbus, Georgia; with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends.
