Dr. Joseph Anthony Lucia

Dr. Joseph Anthony Lucia, 88, of Phenix City, AL passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016 in Columbus, GA.

A funeral service is scheduled for 4:00pm Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 1st Baptist Church of Phenix City with Dr. Ed Summers officiating. A visitation will be held before the service from 3 until 4. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Wednesday Breakfast Prayer Club. The burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Johnson City, NY.

Dr. Lucia was born November 22, 1927 in New York City, NY to the late Pasquale Lucia and Biagia Commissano Lucia. He proudly served in the US Army 11th Airborne Division before beginning his career as a dentist. He was a member of the New York Dental Society, the American Dental Association and the Broome County, NY Dental Society. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church but attended 1st Baptist Church of Phenix City. He regularly attended the Men’s Wednesday Breakfast Prayer Club and volunteered with 1st Baptist Church of Columbus Food Bank. Other than his parents he is preceded in death by sisters, Mary Lucia and Maria Lopane and brothers Benjamin and Anthony Lucia.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Esther Davis Lucia; daughters, Yvonne Lucia husband Dr. Joseph Readling of Binghamton, NY and Anna Marie Lucia Patelumas husband Leo of Endicott, NY; sons, Joseph P. Lucia wife Dr. Maria Gandolfo of Haddon Heights, NJ, Steven Lucia wife Dana of Rochester, NY, Dr. Thomas Lucia wife Anita of Endicott, NY and Dr. John Lucia and Dr. Marianella Olivares Lucia of Rochester, NY; 19 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; step-children, Robert “Bobby” Bain wife Debra, Elizabeth “Beth” Bain Jones husband Ronnie, David Bain wife Cheryl and Katherine “Katy” Bain Kent husband Donny; many nieces and nephews and other extended family.
